Fashion's most difficult items to wear

accreditation

Ready to wear? I think not.

This is not about being able to pull off a trend. Nope. It is about the level of wear-a-difficulty. Fashion is not always functional. Even though it might look impressive and aesthetically pretty, sometimes, it really is just the worst.

Volume

How does one wear big, voluminous items like shirts with flared or oversized sleeves or culottes without resembling an elephant? Well. It's hard.

Try to make friends with juxtaposition as it is all about proportions. Pair a character-ful top with a sleek, straight-legged pair of trousers and heels to balance things out. Elle also suggests opting for a light fabrication when going for volume, e.g. a lightweight blouse in silk.

Bodysuits and jumpsuits

Let's talk adult women overalls. Basically, these are workwear onesies without the funny animal ears. Yes they are slick and look great worn with a simple short or long-sleeved tee. But serious, going to the WC in these can be a challenging affair - literally dropping trou. I can't even imagine this in a public toilet. Aaaaand...Shigella infection.  Or better yet you end up avoiding a bathroom run. Waiting it out till the very last moment. Aaaaaand...urinary tract infection.

Bodysuits, basically full swimsuits in cotton that you wear with a jean, have almost exactly the same difficulty level. So, I ask you, after a long hard look in the mirror, is this '80s aerobics staple really all it's cracked up to be?

Off-the-shoulder tops/dresses

Sure, who doesn't want to resemble a Mediterranean fruit seller (she's back!)? Yet, the almost vodka-binge inducing sliding up and sliding down of sleeves, not to mention bra straps peeking out making sure to give you an uneven tan, can drive one to chuck a melon at an innocent bystander. Sure you can watch a few tutorials on how to pin your bra to your top and make it all nice and practical, but, honestly, we all have full-time jobs.

Flatforms

I love them so much. I have been wearing the Superga Espadrille flatforms for a year now and can honestly tell you that, they still scare me. A flatform is a much better option if you can't walk in heels. They are flat, but also a platform. Raised from the common man you strut down the street with the delusional self-confidence of Lance Armstrong at a press conference. You lie to yourself and your feet as you feel mighty, like you've twisted fate and then...rolled ankle.

Matte lipstick

The matte lipstick trend has been essential to completing any ('90s inspired) outfit choice of late. It is fashion. It is now.

Love it or hate it, it is here to stay for at least another, mmm, say, 2 months? It's fashion, darling. But wearing this bold lip texture can be a tad complicated.

The Gloss stresses that lip exfoliation, moisturisation and adding lip primer is key ensuring matte lips perfection, i.e. lips that don't resemble a mudcrack.

I swear by Elizabeth Arden's Eight Hour Cream Skin Protectant. Add a touch of this before applying the matte lipstick, it is like insurance for your lips.
