Magents' new range majorly disappoints

accreditation

Old-school street couture house Magents recently relaunched their brand with a range of men’s and women’s clothing. Unfortunately, it looked very rushed. They played on the theme of African unity and strength, done through the use of graphic prints on the back of jerseys and dresses that looked like sleepwear. Both ranges had a lot of print going on and the silhouettes were as run of the mill as you can get. A few looks had backpacks, which were a saving grace, as well as subtle colours with a gritty look to them. The launch attracted a host of celebrities, with new and established faces in the industry showing up. When news of their return reached us, we figured the streets were in store for a dose of nostalgic magic from the 90s, fused with a few of the newer elements in streetwear. All we got was a rushed return to the limelight. There were a number of nice men’s jackets – including an impressive one with a Shaka Zulu print, along with the garments that were more understated and not doing as much as the bold shirts with black fists or Nelson Mandela’s face on them. Magents should have approached this new range like a fashion house that paved the way for many.
