Drooling over the Balenciaga knife-point mules recently, I realised I actually don't like the velvet trend. I have the MRP velvet trucker sandals in blue, which I adore and wear very often, but that's about how far I'd go.

To me a velvet top is much like Regina George in Mean Girls, deceptively attractive. Pretty on the outside, but ultimately cruel and unforgiving.

And much like Cady Heron, satin has been experiencing a sudden upswing in popularity. But learn from Cady's mistakes, and don't become smug. Tread lightly instead of jumping right in and draping yourself in this luxe (and also rather unforgiving) fabric.

The cami

I forgot. I also own a mint crushed velvet camisole, which I luuurve. This is the only other way velvet works for me. And the same rule applies to satin - wear it with high-rise trousers or a pleather skirt, a denim jacket and ankle boots or sneakers.
