On Wednesdays we wear (dusty) pink

accreditation

Who would have thought that I would be openly declaring that on Wednesday’s we wear pink?

Up until March this year, the only pink thing in my wardrobe was a pleated mini skirt that my sister got for me as a gift. Come to think of it, since she gave it to me 5 years ago, last year was the first time I ever even wore it.

Save for lipstick or nail varnish, pink, even in its pastel form has never really appealed to me. Which is weird because I am kind of obsessed with Aerosmith’s song ‘Pink’ and candyfloss.

Fast forward to July 2016 and I am (almost) wearing pink from head to toe. And guess what,  I don’t look like Nicki Minaj or a 4 year old. Why? Because the dusty or pastel pink is the new adult pink. The kind of pink that is modern and when styled right can look incredibly chic.

Tips for wearing pastel pink:

Not all pinks are made equal. Don’t confuse pastel/dusty pink with highlighter or Barbie pink. No, no, no. It’s not the same thing and the effect is vastly different.

If you’re scared, start with an accessory, like a pretty pale pink faux fur shawl or bag.

Wear it head to toe, but keep the silhouettes simple, tailored and modern.

You can’t go wrong with pastel pink pants in a strong, interesting silhouette. The juxtaposition of this candyfloss colour with a strong shape perceived to be masculine, makes for a really contemporary look.

All it took was one pink coat to turn me. Now I have other pastel dusty pink items in my wardrobe of pieces with character. Best part is… Regina George would hundred percent let me be one of the ‘Plastics.’
