It’s a dream many girls harbour – of being plucked out of obscurity and handed a modelling contract! Well for Anok Yai, a 19-year-old student from the USA, this dream has just become a reality.
Photos of her snapped last weekend at Howard University's homecoming festivities in Washington DC have gone viral with thousands saying she should become a model.
Apparently, they’re not the only ones who think so! In response three agencies have already reached out to her, MailOnline reports.
“It was a dream that I always wanted, but I wasn't sure if it was going to happen,” she says.
The photographer who snapped her (he was photographing people with fashionable outfits), put her photo on Instagram, captioning it, “Saw her right at the end of Yardfest.”
“My phone just started vibrating rapidly for a long, long time,” Anok told The Boston Globe. “At first, I honestly thought someone made a meme of me or something.”
Her new followers on the social media app began tagging numerous modelling agencies to give her a contract.
She admits she didn’t like the photos initially considering them “average”. “At first, I questioned what everyone was seeing because I didn’t really see it. Honestly, I think that people get so used to seeing themselves that people don’t see their own beauty because they see it every day.”
The biochemistry student who moved to the States with her family from Egypt in 2000 says she’s always been interested in fashion and art, but modelling was always her dream. Well now it’s really happening, congrats!
