When I was a little girl (in the late '80s) all I wanted was to wear gold hoops and have a bob hairstyle. That to me was perfection.
'80s and '90s style influences won't give up, and we're totally cool with that - especially when it comes to accessorising.
And lately, my Instagram feed has been flooded with gold and brass in particular. So, of course, I had to get some of them. (I've found that shopping Instagram is much better than eating your feelings - though slightly more expensive). And who am I but a poor innocent cog in this capitalist machine, right?
I feel almost powerless to stop it.
Now the only question that remains: Should I get that bob?
Here are some fetch pieces to shop on IG and online:
I don't own any of her pieces yet, but plan to chance that very soon. Steffany Roup, I love your work.
Local babe Waif has some gorgeous collections, but my favourite pieces by her are still from her first collection. Just yes!
Yaaaas to these new hoops by local designer Matter of Fakt...
Also these brass rings...
Then one of my Cape Town favs, Lorne, who I discovered on Instagram and contacted after seeing one of her IG stories. I had to have a boob earring. She makes gorgeous artsy pieces that will up any plain outfit's ante...
I've bought some awesome pieces from Ventrone Chronicles on Instagram - it took about a month to arrive, but it was so worth it:
TIP: Also peruse local vintage markets, like the Milnerton Market, Vintage Lover and the Antique Arcade in Cape Town or Reminiscene in Melville for budget-happy retro jewels.
