What to buy (and wear) now

accreditation

It’s cold. In fact it’s fricken freezing. And because a hip flask filled with Russian Bear is not allowed at work, the morning promise of good, strong coffee from my local barista and a pink elephant onesie and warm bed at night are (only just) keeping my spirits up.

Yet, the hours in between need to be made exciting with a few, let’s call them opkikkers or 'bodily decorations'. Now, we can all agree that draping oneself in soft velvet, like George Costanza would be ideal, but lets rather go mainstream (ohhh hipster burn) and adorn our bodies with these key winter fashion trends:

The bomber jacket

Because who needs a squad when you’re wearing one of these, right? Oversized or embroidered, it’s all about the details this season. Find a bomber that is plain or decorated to your taste. Keep an eye out for MrP's fab bombers launching this August, and shop some unique ones at Superbalist, Puma Select and Topshop now.

Chokers

I've tried to ignore this trend hoping it would just go away. Mostly because it reminded me of those barbwire chokers from my youth - which in turn reminded me of Pamela Anderson's arm tattoo. Which just makes me gril.

Yet, I have been persuaded, especially when I saw the ones by local fashion boss and designer Raya Rossi:

But you can also make your own! Watch this tutorial by fashion girl Raylene Harvey:

Pink

No longer just reserved for Wednesdays, the dusty pink pantone is by far this year's most popular hue. Specifically in coat form.

Brass

Everyone seems to be making brass jewellery lately. Mainly because it looks fantastic. Waif and Matter of Fakt have some of our most coveted pieces of the moment. But the only thing about brass is that it needs a polish every so often as it tends to wear off. Here are tips on how to clean your brass accessories yourself.

Lace-ups

Stomp, splash around like you’re damn Gene Kelly in Singing in the Rain or even take a stroll through the Upside Down in Stranger Things - and still have dry toes. Shop some amazing ones here.

Promise yourself the sun, moon and stars

The fashion industry is basically encouraging your jewellery box to become a whimsical mess. And we must obey.

Adorn those ears and neck with your favourite milky-way delights. Shop them here.

Fluffy slippers

Now I know in my article 5 fashion trends that just won’t die I stressed the importance of the demise of Uggs. And, though classic sheepswool slipper might resemble this J-Bay staple, I am urging you to get a pair anyway.

Students especially love perusing McDonald's and BP convenient shops in their stokies and slippers, which I think should be banned along with barefeet.

So keep it indoors, wear them only at home and enjoy the perks of having private fireplaces for your feet.

Because people should not know what you're thinking.

Third Eye Watch in Cape Town has some awesome (and cheap) ones.
