9 make-up tips for women who wear specs

accreditation
A leader in the make-up industry, Bobbi Brown says it best when declaring that it’s about using the right make-up and the right techniques in simplifying make-up – especially when donning eyewear.

Find it hard to follow mainstream make-up tips, because your specs are getting in the way? Follow these great tips:

1. Specs draw attention to your eyes, plus it frames the eyes. Eyeliner is essential when defining your eye to your frame. So, let your frames guide you in what eyeliner stroke to go for:

A fantastic trick is matching the thickness of your eyeliner to the thickness of your frame. If your frame is thick, apply a thick line of eyeliner to you upper lash line. Apply the opposite technique if you’ve adapted your eyes with a thinner frame. Line your upper lash line with a thinner stroke.

2. If your prescription lenses make you appear more wide-eyed, i.e. like Professor Sybill Trelawney, in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban ); opt for lighter strokes of eyeliner and more neutral shades of eyeshadow. The last thing you want is magnifying any mistakes.

If the opposite is true and your eyes seem to appear smaller, eyeliner is your wand of choice. Select an eyeliner that is darker than your natural eye colour and coat with two swishes of mascara for magical definition and defining.

We are currently very much in love with the new Lancome Hypnôse Volume-à-porter (R420), Cashmere Sensation Volume Mascara. Let your lashes do all the talking...

3. If you have a light blue or green eyes, opt for a coloured eyeliner on your lower lash while selecting a black on the top to really make your eyes stand out from behind those frames.

4. Avoid looking like someone rubbed a box of Smarties all over your face, because the rule ‘less is more’ is there for a reason. Select a single, bold colour and centre the rest of your shades on that.

Bright lips pair well with specs, so opt for neutral shades around the eye while going bold with a bright lip colour.

5. Your eyebrows frame your specs. Create wizardry for a sultry gaze by defining those brows. All Women’s Talk assures us that shaping your brow to your unique specs frame will really make your eyes pop. Check out how Megan Vigil does eyebrows with spectacles, here:

6. Frames can cast shadows below your eye, especially if you’re wearing a smaller frame. Try using  a yellow-tone concealer that is a shade lighter than your natural skin colour and apply just below your eye.

7. Make-up specs. Yes, this exists. If your vision is particularly weak and you cannot see a thing while applying your make-up, get yourself a pair of make-up specs with a single lense that flips over to each eye.

8. The bigger your frame, the more room you have to work with – especially with colour. Clinique shows us how to have the best colour party ever:

9. Go bold with luscious lashes. Your lash line is what is first seen, so perk up those lashes with extra volume mascaras.
