Cape Town spas and beauty treatments to try now

accreditation

Cape Town has so much to offer in terms of pampering. There's a spa, beauty clinic or wellness centre around every corner.

Are they all excellent establishments? No, not always. But those that get it right, oh boy. Bliss.

From the Heavenly spa on the 19th floor of the Westin Hotel in the very heart of the Mother city to Goji Spa, nestled in the Tygervalley burbs, Capetonians are truly spoilt for choice.

There is something for everyone and the list of treatments on offer is endless.

Whether it's getting an express manicure, a detoxing slimming treatment or a full body massage, for most getting pampered means having this feeling...

Here's a few fun and innovative new treatments to try at some pretty perfect pamper spots:

1. Lipomassage by Endermologie at Legs Eleven (For prices go here)

We all have those stubborn areas, and while some of us work to improve on them with a balanced diet or extra exercise, sometimes saddle bags, cellulite dimples and orange peel skin simply can’t be effectively treated.

I recently tried the Lipomassage by Endermologie, at Legs Eleven in Greenpoint, to see whether it would increase my body's firmness. I had the treatment on my stomach area, but you can choose to have it on your entire body or a targeted area like your upper thighs.

How it works: you start by squeezing yourself into a super tight-fitting body suit. Then you lie down and get your stomach sucked in all sorts of directions for about 15-20 minutes. It genuinely feels like a tiny vacuum cleaner sucking at your stomach.

It’s completely pain-free. The treatment gently, yet intensively conditions skin tissue to eliminate fat deposits, revitalise blood and lymphatic circulation. It also reactivate lipolysis, stimulate the collagen and elastin production and firm slackening skin.

The thick, hardened connective tissue, which traps the fat cells, is stretched and softened which allows resistant fat to be discharged and eliminated. Lipomassage™ is unique in that it reaches where no other non-surgical treatment can to effectively target problem fatty areas and treat the underlying causes of cellulite. The result is a slimmer, more contoured body, smoothed out cellulite and naturally firmer skin.

Along with the massage I’ve been trying some of Thalgo’s cosmetic marine and algae based detox nutrition supplements.  The Thalgo detox and slimming supplements are the best accompaniment to the Lipomassage to help you detox whilst stimulating circulation and lymph drainage to improve the appearance of cellulite and tone your silhouette.

After a week of taking the supplements I felt lighter and noticed better overall circulation.

2. Bellabaci massage at Yemaya Spa  R 650 (60 Min)

I've visited Yemaya Spa once before and what I love most about this spa is its incredible offering. A full hair salon, nail bar and spa with an almost endless list of treatments and products, this truly is a one-stop shop.

This is my second time trying the healing treatment that is cupping. It's an ancient form of healing or alternative medicine where cups are placed on the body, creating a local form of suction. It can hurt a little, especially if you don't have a high pain threshold, but it is both relaxing and stimulating. After the treatment your back will be covered in dark rings (almost like bruises), but do not fret this is totally normal. The "bruises" disappear within a few days.

A Bellabaci massage is fantastic for encouraging lymphatic drainage and blood circulation. The process of cupping ultimately detoxifies the body. Regular sessions promise to improve stretch marks, cellulite, spider veins and releases tension from tight, and sore muscles.

Is there any issue cupping can’t resolve? It's truly an amazing bargain for such a quality treatment with so many benefits.

3. Africa Indulgence Signature Package at Cayenne Spa, R1100 for 3 hours

Situated in Cape Town's lovely Pepper Club hotel, the Cayenne Spa offers beautiful views of Table Mountain, a sensory stimulating range of beauty treatments all done with natural Africology products and incredibly knowledgeable, talented staff.

The indulgent signature treatment incorporates the spa's signature Intonga Stick Massage, a unique full body experience. Performed with both hands and African Bamboo wooden sticks, the experience provides a deep tissue and stress relieving massage.

I can truly say I've never been this relaxed. I basically drifted in an out of consciousness, and I never fall asleep during massages. So there.

The massage is followed by a scalp therapy massage and a delightful Africology Botanical Facial performed with pure natural oils. The smell of Aloe Vera cools and stimulates you all at the same time.

Finish off your 3 hours of bliss with either an express manicure or pedicure. I opted for the pedi.

The treatment ends off with some delicious chocolate covered strawberries and a glass of bubbly. Not too shabs for a Wednesday afternoon!
