My grey hairs are giving me...grey hairs!

We all dread the day when we find that first grey hair. Perhaps you found yours decades ago...and you still don’t know what to do? Well, read David’s advice after seeing what our readers had to ask him.

•    I am 52. I started going grey at an early age if 32.  I've tinted my roots for  20 years.  Lately being exceptionally busy I've. It had time for my usual 3 weekly tint!  My hair is exceptionally grey.  I'd like to embrace my grey but don't know how to live with the grey until it's fully grown out.  Do I cut my hair, do I put in grey streaks? No hairdresser can make me feel comfortable.  I also have a Brazilian blowdry 3 monthly as I have this terrible fizz, which does. Or seem to work with grey hair or so I'm told?

•    I’m a mother of 2....35 of age going afro but de thing is I hav grey hair its difficult to maintain. It’s embarrassing  me as I'm still young and I would love to stay natural....please help on how can I manage this dilemma

•    I do not have a problem as such, I am just getting old and because of this I dyed my hair blonde. Needless to say after 2 years I still have not found the correct colour. It is either too yellow or too white, I have been looking for a grey silver hair dye, this will help, as I am quite content to go grey I just want it to happen overnight.

•    Hair hair hair ……..    its my biggest issue. I am 46 year old – with very grey hair, which I keep dyed, a dark brown – which is the only colour that actually looks nice on me – I have tried the highlights and going lighter – but not for me. What would you suggest? Would love to cut it all off – but my partner says “NO”

•    My hair grows very fast, I am about 15% grey and after 3 - 4 weeks have grey hair showing, I don't feel old enough to have grey hair, but can't keep up with the colouring.

•    I am 32 years old and is as grey (supposed to be redhead) as an 80 year old for the last 5 years. It means I have to colour my hair every 4 week as the grey is ugly when it grows out. And in-between this I save money for a Brazilian BW as I have thick frizzy hair. I think my hair is coming to an end as it can’t take all this chemicals anymore. I need a solution to keep my hair shiny and healthy without damaging it.

David says: We all know that our hair starts going grey as we age, and once it starts there’s almost no stopping it, for most people.

As this happens you need to work out how committed you are to covering the grey. Or are you going to embrace it and work it into your natural colour?

If you’re going to cover it up, remember, always start going lighter as you grey. It's far more flattering and the grey will not be as obvious as it grows out.

Adding a few lighter highlights around the face will break up the grey regrowth line and add softness to your look.
Be careful of red on very grey hair as it can have a tendency to go an unflattering dirty pink hue. Rather go for more natural warm hues.

Nowadays, grey has become extremely fashionable, so, with deeper highlights, low lights and a cool trendy cut you can look amazing with grey!
