The popularity of oil-based skin care has skyrocketed over the last 2 years, seeing every and any skin care brand launching its very own miracle product. An oil-based product, particularly a face moisturiser, is usually understood as a remedy for drier skin types. Yet what many fail to understand is that oily products can actually help those with oily skin as well. According to She Knows, Dr Cynthia Bailey says that using oil on oil will help to effectively reduce oily residue and dirt. Understand your skin
Your skin produces sebum - the substance that clogs your pores, which can also cause breakouts. This normally happens when the level of oil isn’t balanced in your skin. Oily skin types tend to be thicker than normal to combination skins – making oily skins prone to acne.
Applying moisturiser keeps our skin smooth, while it increases the water content and prevents any moisture loss. That’s why oil-based moisturisers are better than cream in winter as the air is drier; and using face oils could save our skin from dryness, redness and breakouts. Using non-comedogenic oils should help as it balances the sebum production and also helps the management and treatment of acne and oily skin.
A few additional benefits include:
- It gives you a glowing complexion, making you look younger
- Face oils contain nourishing nutrients that will strengthen your skin
