5 Summer Wardrobe Essentials

A few weeks ago, our deputy editor Lili Radloff's house was broken into and all her clothes were stolen Talk about a wardrobe emergency, right? So, our lovely readers dished on their clothing must-haves to help her tackle the mall trip.

As a tall and very curvaceous woman (in the backside department), I struggle to find nice clothes that fit (I need to try at least 20 pairs of pants before I find one that fits).  So here are my 2cents worth of what you need:

1. A good pair of wedge shoes. Go to Woolies as they currently have a gorgeous range. You can wear them with anything, they will make you look leaner and taller and you won't have to worry about wobbling around on them as they are comfortable and stable.
2. Get a long or knee length skirt with a cool print. Either black and white or multicoloured so you can wear it with any colour top. If you're scared of patterns go for a bold colour.
3. A good pair of slacks. If, like me, you're bottom heavy a drawstring helps wonders and you can get awesome "denim-looking but not denim" slacks.
4. Lots of colourful tops (strappy, with sleeves), as long as they are fitted. You could also get cami like tops and team them up with cute colourful cardigans. Think colour!
5. A black dress (long or short, your choice). Again it must be flattering.

Don't forget to buy accessories: scarves, strings of pearls etc. Sass Diva is great for cheap funky jewelry.

Remember these days anything goes, including mixing prints and colours. Your shoes don't need to match your bag or earrings.  But stay away from leggings and pelmet skirts, please!

I think you are living my worst nightmare. The thought of replacing YEARS of gathering in a few shopping days, with a measly insurance payout, just plain freaks me out.

Nevertheless, here are my suggestions for top 5 must haves:

1. A comfortable yet sexy pair of dark, narrow jeans that can be dressed up or down;
2.  A pair of beaded sandals that can be worn with black and another with brown (does this count as two?);
3. A dress that makes your man say "wow" and your friends cry with envy;
4. A top that is either laced or frilled and makes you feel like a girl, but still works on a school-run or grocery shop;
5.  Either a pretty long necklace or a silky colourful scarf that you can add to any outfit to make u feel va-va-voom.

All the best in finding the right colour and fit of those clothes that will make you feel WOW!

I am indeed "Jammer om van jou kak te hoor", no amount of money can replace that magic pair of worn in jeans (that fit on both skinny and fat days), that versatile cardi that you got at 50% off or those black pumps that smell like death but just won't die.

I always have the following 5 items:

1. Great fitting jeans, preferably dark navy as these can be dressed down with takkies but still look great dressed up with heals (Identity or Edgars, always find my size and they're affordable);
2. A black or white cardi, or both (Identity or Woolies, not much difference in price or quality);
3. A black or white cami, or both
4. Black pumps, they work with EVERYTHING (found a cute pair at Pick ‘n Pay clothing, cheap);
5. A goldish/bronzish handbag goes with browns, blacks, reds, just about everything really. I always buy a handbag that is slightly more expensive (about R800) as my handbag takes a lot of abuse.

Number 2 and 3 are real lifesavers when you don't know what to wear!

Tammy says:

1. A really good pair of jeans;
2. A medium sized black leather handbag;
3. A good jacket that can be dressed up or down – I prefer a light weight one that I can use in winter or cool summer evenings;
4. My closet has a pile of tops that can be worn with shorts or smart pants & all ‘done up' (you know, tops that tread the line between casual and smart);
5. Oh man 5 things? I know there are meant to be loads of things we meant to have and I could probably come up with more but I can’t only think about shopping for so long!
