Claudia appeared in the series of concept photos in 2007 (images above). But the image of her wearing dark foundation, a bewildered facial expression and an Afro wig has garnered criticism since appearing in a German magazine.
Shevelle Rhule, fashion editor of black women's magazine Pride said: "There are not enough women of colour featured in mainstream magazines. This just suggests you can counteract the problem by using white models... No thought has been given to the history behind what they have done and the comparisons it draws with minstrel shows."
Meanwhile Claudia's spokesperson said: "The pictures were not intended to offend, they were done very creatively… People should not jump to conclusions."
