I recently got asked to describe how I view Johannesburg street style and I couldn’t think of a better way than to quote one of my favourite quotes on style by Rachel Zoe – ’Style is a way to say who you are without having to speak.’
Johannesburg street style is a reflection of the city.
From the rejuvenated inner city to Sandton; Johannesburg’s well presented edgy, expressive, global, individualistic aesthetic is a reflection of the city’s juxtapositions and contrasts and simply another way in which people communicate about themselves to the outside world.
Alexander Wang once said, ‘Anyone can get dressed up and glamorous, but it is how people dress in their days off that are the most intriguing.’
I spend a lot of my on and off days in these cropped leather trackpant-inspired trousers from H&M x Alexander Wang. Today I paired it with this fun, printed sweater from Missshape.
As someone whose days are filled with a myriad of commitments and tasks that range from serious client presentations in boardrooms to store openings or media events; being super comfortable in what I am wearing and having pieces that transition easily from day to night with ease is something that is integral to my personal style.
If I can’t slap on a pair of heels and completely transform an "off day" outfit; then I really haven’t left my house well prepared for the day.
