Shine-up your look

accreditation
Giving your look a "shine up" may not be as difficult or as expensive as you may think.  A tweak here and there could be in the form of a new hair cut, a new way of applying your make-up, a daring pair of chandelier earrings or a sexy pair of heels that you would have never had the guts to wear before.

To get you started, I've put together a few "shine up" ideas to inspire you:

Wardrobe shine up:  Do you have a wardrobe full of clothing and nothing to wear?  If so, it's time to take a look at that closet so you can create a look that works for you.

Revamp the old:

    * Take out all the clothing you haven't worn in the last year.  Before you give these items away to charity, consider whether you will wear any of them.  But be honest with yourself.  If it doesn't fit, if it's not your colour or if you've had it for the past 20 years hoping it will come back in fashion…. it's time for it to go.  Make sure that you also look out for hidden gems in there that might just work to shine up your look.

    * Organise the items you do wear.  If you can't see it, it's unlikely you will wear it.  Have some form of system.  There are several options, you just need to find one that works for you.  If you need some help, Woolworths has some great wardrobe gadgets that can help you to better organise your shoes, belts, handbags, scarves etc.  Once again, taking a look at what you do have in your closet can be like shopping for free.

A touch of the new:

    * Try a new style: If you tend to get stuck in a rut and wear the same styles all the time, it might be time to try something different this year.  When you next go shopping, go to stores you've always passed by but not entered.  Try on styles you never thought to wear.  If it doesn't work for you, nothing is lost.  I always remind my clients that you learn just as much from styles that don't work for you as you do from the styles that do.   Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

    * Try a new colour: If you tend to stick to safe colours or just black, then it's definitely time for a change.  Try colours you never thought to wear.  If you always wear blue, try coral or magenta.  You don't need to buy a top in every colour you try, you just need to think a little out of the box and try a few.  When trying a new colour, pay attention to what it does for your complexion.  If you are unsure, compare it to a colour you know works for you.  If it makes your skin look radiant and your eye colour stands out, then it's a good colour.  If it makes you look yellow or very pale, then it's not your best colour.

Re-assess your make-up routine:
Make-up trends have changed a lot in the last few years.  You need to re-assess your make-up routine and products at least every two years.  At the moment, make-up trends are leaning toward a natural look.  With the right products and a little know-how, applying your make-up can freshen up your look and give you a natural glow!  If you need some know-how, book a make-up lesson with a make-up artist or visit the Bobbi Brown Cosmetic counters in selected Edgars stores for a free make-up lesson with Bobbi Brown products.

Consider a new hairstyle:
Styling your hair is much quicker and easier with the help of the great styling aids and products available these days.  You may not even need a drastic cut; a simple re-styling that helps you style your hair with ease might just do the trick.  Find a hair stylist you trust and discuss your needs and the amount of time you are prepared to spend styling your hair each day.  This will help your stylist to advise you on a style that best suits your hair type and lifestyle.

Whatever changes you make, whether big or small, decide to shine this year from the inside out.
