The 80s comeback!

accreditation
Right, let us all agree (and not just from the stylist’s point of view!) that Spring/Summer 2010 has the best selection of trends that we have seen in a long time.

Think about it. We’ve had denim, tribal, sequined bling, military street-wear, structured eveningwear, whitewash and pastel daywear – Fantastic! Something for everyone.

But the biggest trend of them all was the '80s comeback and my word did we all welcome that one back. This particular decade of glorious excess is still undergoing an almighty ransack by the fashion industry.

White ruffles & Frills a la Duran Duran are all over our editorial spreads, as are the stonewashed jeans and lumo T's. Converse have also been transformed again, as have brogues.

This comeback will slowly take us into Autumn/Winter 2010 with the injection of maximium impact, high shine fabrics and the return of the leather jacket. I cannot wait for it to get cooler so I can don my leather boots, gloves and jacket. For to-die-for gloves and jackets, have a look at www.countryroad.com.au.

Many eighties pieces may still be lurking in your wardrobes so dig deep! Or pop into any of the local vintage shops or look for off-the-beaten-track charity shops, jumble sales, mother’s wardrobes, as well as retro outlets such as “Jay Jays” who have 34 stores nationally with a great selection of retro clothing at affordable prices www.ackermansgroup.com. And don’t forget good ‘ole Mr.Price!

Some items to avoid (there are plenty): clapped-out baggy-arse leggings and that cheesy Flashdance one-shouldered sweatshirt. Honestly, rather save your cash for the gorgeous brocade bolero – ohhh, and resist that nostalgic perm!

Where to flaunt it: Saturday nights at "Decodance underground”. For some awesome '80s tunes, you have to listen to The Wedding DJs  and the fabulous DJ Legwarmer herself!

For visual inspiration.....get out the omnibus of “Heart to Heart” and “Dynasty”, put the Cap de Classique on ice, invite the gals over wearing whatever they find that still fits the theme and blast Carly Simon and Cyndi Lauper from the roof tops!

God, I love the 80s.

Let the River Run.

P.S. Take a look at a few of my fave buys. Even better, see where you can get them too!
