Lunar gardening: Will your plants grow better by moonlight?

accreditation
Since ancient times, farmers have used the lunar phases to guide their agricultural activities. There are thought to be two factors of the moon that aids gardening and agricultural efforts:

First, the gravitational pull of the moon is thought to have an effect on the flow of moisture in the soil.

According to Organic Lessons, the gravitational force of a new moon causes water to pull up to the surface of the ground, hence high tide during a full moon. Newly planted seeds will then swell with moisture and burst into germination.

Second, the intensity of the moonlight is also thought to have an effect on leaf growth and stimulation. This is a great time to plant new seeds, particularly carrots and onions.  This would also be a good time for transplanting sprouting seedlings from the flower pot and into the ground.
