10 Road trip Dos and Don'ts

1- Remember the music:
There's nothing worse than being stuck in a car for 10 hours with only your voice for company, or two CDs you have to play on repeat. Bring a good range of music, and enough to make sure you won't get bored of what you have. It won't only help to keep you entertained on those long flat stretches, but it will keep you awake when you need that extra energy.

2-Share the driving:
Don't be a hero! If you're tired, pull over and rest or let someone else take the wheel, driving when you're tired is not only incredibly stupid, but unnecessary.

3- Be a good passenger:
Don't be that person that gets in the car and immediately falls asleep!  As co-pilot, your responsibility is to play good music and keep your driver alert - but try your best not to be so entertaining that you end up distracting them!

4- Don't make unnecessary food stops
The temptation is huge to snack pretty much the whole way while you're on the road. But don't give in - no matter how good that combo pie and coke deal is looking. Stick to the same meal times and portions you eat at home or you'll have to roll out the car at your next stop.

5- Learn the basics:
It's tempting to leave all the mechanical know-how up to the men, but it's important that you at least have an understanding of the basic things that could go wrong. From changing a tyre to knowing where your fan-belt is, try and get a crash course before heading off on your next adventure.

6- Be friendly to everyone you meet:
Not too friendly, if you know what I mean, but you never know when you may need a helping hand!

7- Stretch your legs:
After sitting for hours in the same position, it really helps to make the most of the times when you stop. Always try to get out of the car - even if you're just filling up with petrol - and take a short walk around. Even a quick stroll will make a big difference.

8 - Bring car chargers:
You don't want to be left stranded with no battery on your phone. Bring a car charger and always know who to call in case of an emergency.

9 - Fill up regularly:
Try and plan your petrol stops properly so you're not left trying to make that last ten litres stretch for the next 50kms.

10- Take it all in:
Don't forget where you are. stop, take a break, and enjoy the view!
