Driving through Namibia, remarked one traveller, feels like driving through a dryer, dustier South Africa.
The shops and banks are all the same, the roads are in great condition, you hear Afrikaans everywhere you go and you don't even need to bother changing your Rands.

It is a beautiful country with so much heart and is often skipped over in favour of more popular and exotic sounding African countries, like Zambia and Mozambique.
You’ll get there in no time
It's only a 6 hour drive from Cape Town which if nothing else, is worth it for the incredible views you'll get from your car window as you pass through Namaqualand into the Cedarberg.
Once you cross the border, the first stop you need to make is on the banks of the Orange River where you can canoe through the dramatic desert scenery of Namibia’s southwest.
Make a splash
Take it easy as you paddle past incredible rock formations and stop to picnic on the riverbank with professional guides that will point out the incredible bird life on offer.
Have a drink
Windhoek is another place that is worth a night or two. Although the countries capital is not exactly Namibia’s most beautiful destination, the city has a great vibe and travellers all come together for a cold Windhoek at the infamous Joe's Bar.
Be adventurous
Swakopmund is also a must-see. This scenic beach town is renowned for the German influence that dominates much of its colonial architecture and it is known as the adventure capital of Namibia.
The town offers visitors some of the highest dunes in the world, making it the perfect playground for quad bikers and sand-borders. 4x4ing is another popular adventure trip that allows travellers the chance to test their nerves on the dunes between Lüderitz and Walvis Bay.
So, next time you have the chance to take a few days off, let Namibia entertain you with all she has to offer.
