5 must-haves for the ultimate in kitchen cool

accreditation
From high-tech to high design, these innovative culinary appliances, fittings and tools, each one sourced from an exhibitor at the forthcoming Decorex Joburg, are guaranteed to feature on the shopping lists of gadget-loving foodies.

1. The teppanyaki griddle
The versatile Japanese style grill plate is a fast and fun way to mix and match your favourite ingredients for delicious Oriental style dishes.

This one-piece stainless-steel version, from leading Dutch kitchen appliance brand ATAG, features a removable tray, which makes getting rid of excess oil and grease a breeze.

It also has two flexible cooking zones, separate twin zone controls and is thermostatically controlled between 50°C and 250°C.

Available from Curves & Bevels Designer Kitchens.

2. The stick blender
From Bamix of Switzerland, the Swissline handheld blender offers a multipurpose blade, plus a whisk, beater and processor in one. All parts that come into contact with food are made of top quality rust-free materials, and are odourless, tasteless and food-safe. Available with two speed settings, a 200-Watt heavy-duty motor and soft-grip handle, the nifty little unit also comes with a 900ml Polycarbonate jug and a handy stand.

Available from Homeline Direct.

3. The corner cabinet
The LeMans pull-out cabinet from Kesseböhmer combines efficient space utilisation with great accessibility. The forward-swinging trays move independently of each other, which means you can store lots of pots and pans, yet have each one within easy reach. What’s more, each shelf has a weight-bearing capacity of 20kg, making them virtually impossible to overload, and a ClickFixx automatic self-closing option allows for near-silent cushioned closing.

Available from WSI Designs.

4. The variable-temperature kettle
The KLF02 kettle features the signature curves and fifties-style lettering Smeg is known for, but, instead of just giving you boiling water like most standard kettles, it comes with the choice of seven temperature settings, from 50°C to 100°C. The stainless-steel body offers a capacity of 1.7-litres and the kettle comes with a push-pull opening lid, electronic temperature control, and a keep-warm function that will keep the water warm for 20 minutes.

Available from Smeg.

5. The coloured sink
The Swiss-designed Franke Pebel Fragranite sink at long last gives the home decorator the option of being a little colour-creative in the kitchen. Although manufactured from quality stainless steel, the sink is offered in a palette of sleek modern neutrals, from pearly Oyster and rich Coffee to moody Carbon Black, allowing you to mix-and-match your kitchen furniture and accompanying accessories without being confined to the standard metallics or ceramic hues of old-style sanitary ware.

Available from Franke.
