A recent study found that mobile ‘socialising’ is dangerous behind the wheel.
"It's astounding, scary..." noted David Schwebel who administered the research for the University of Alabama (UAB).
Impaired concentration
What is even more alarming is the fact that ten of the 100 or so UAB students who partook in the study admitted to being involved in subsequent motor vehicle accidents linked to their Smartphone and app addiction.
Schwebel, whose research forms part of a larger study on the influence of apps on pedestrian safety, warned that distracted driving is likely to get worse as mobile contraptions get smarter and grow even more popular.
"Driving is difficult. It takes substantial cognitive effort, visual perception. You need to be seeing the world around you," he explained.

Should Smartphone ‘socialising’ be banned altogether?
