How to speed up an insurance claim

Motor vehicles

•    Make sure the information on your claims form is correct and contains full details of the third party and any eye-witnesses.

•    Report the case to the police immediately. They will give you a case number which you must give to your Broker or Insurer when registering the claim.

•    Provide a clear description of how the accident happened.

•    Include a clear sketch of the accident.

•    Keep your policy number and identity number at hand when registering telephonically or online.

Home contents and personal belongings

•    Keep all the receipts and manuals of your electronic equipment, or keep a record of the serial and model numbers of your equipment.

•    Make sure all your assets are insured at their replacement value.

When applying for insurance:

•    Do not sign any blank or partially completed application form.

•    Complete all forms in ink.

•    Keep all documents handed to you.

•    Make notes as to what is said to you.

•    Don't be pressurised into buying a product.

*If you withhold relevant information or provide incomplete information, the insurer may refuse to settle your claim.
