We moved into a new house two years ago and I spent quite a bit of money to buy new eyelet curtains for the living room. Everyone always commented on how gorgeous they look and how will the suit the house so I was really chuffed.
One weekend I decided it’s time to wash them - as you know kids can’t walk past a curtain without touching for some reason...
I did a quick check of the washing instructions on the curtains. Seeing that it’s fine to machine wash I happily put them in the washing machine. Half way through Eskom had a surprise load shedding - this was also before the age of FB groups that kindly warn everyone in advance.
I didn't think too much of the curtains in the machine at the time. After two hours the power came back on and the machine finished the wash cycle. I asked hubby to help me lift the curtains out and this is when we discovered the damage...
The backing on the curtains had literally "melted" off the curtains! I looked at the washing instructions again in horror and realised that the back of the label said ‘DO NOT SOAK’.
Needless to say I can’t replace the two curtains and there are four drops per window / door of which two are now horribly damaged!
I also don't have the money to buy new drops so will have to live with the two damaged drops for another year or two until I have saved up to replace all the drops!
So sad!
