ADVERTORIAL: Recycling? Women have got it all sorted

accreditation
Surveys conducted in both the US and the UK show that when it comes to recycling, women are definitely the greener sex.

One survey found that almost 70% of women who live alone dispose of refuse in an environmentally-friendly way compared with 58% of single men.

That figure rises to nearly 80% for couples, suggesting women will be the driving force when it comes to sorting and disposing waste.

In South Africa, women are showing the way at home and in the waste industry too! Many strong women are making an impact across all areas of our society and economic activity.

Specifically, there are those whose activities relate directly to the sustainability arena.

What better way to do so than to build on what our mothers taught us: “Waste not, want not…”?

WATCH “The Story of the PETCO People” which gives a snapshot of how collection of PET is changing the lives of many women:

Women’s Day on 9 August celebrates not only the historical role of women in creating a new South Africa and their vibrant contribution to the growth of our young democracy in the past 20 years, but the continuing leadership role of our women in creating a better life for communities. Making a contribution to a cleaner environment and a better life for all is simple.

Start recycling in your home – its as easy as 1, 2, 3.

1.    Don’t simply throw away anything made of PET with other rubbish or as litter on the street.

2.    Separate PET plastic items, and other recyclables, from other waste and put them out separately in a clear bag.

3.    Put your clear bag out on garbage collection day, to be collected by the municipality or a PET collector.

If you don’t have collection, drop your recyclables at to your closest collection point or drop-off centre.  Make a habit of support recycling schemes at your local school or other recycling initiatives in your community.

Visit www.petco.co.za to find out more about PET recycling or www.mywaste.co.za to find the closest collection point to drop off your PET for recycling.

Plastic bottles are not trash!
