Best wine route in Cape Town?

accreditation
If you’re visiting the Mother City, then you simply must explore our award-winning wine farms.

The Cape Winelands, however, is vast and stretches for many, many kilometres. Travellers with time constraints often end up having to choose only one of the five local ‘hotspots’, without really knowing much about them.

So, what is on offer?

Constantia Valley
, characterised by its intimate feel, is situated just minutes away from central Cape Town. The route extends from the Wynberg Hill area, to the Tokai/Silvermine Mountains and is home to prestigious estates like Groot Constantia, Klein Constantia, Buitenverwachting, Constantia Uitsig, Steenberg, Constantia Glen and Eagles Nest.

Durbanville, nestled on the picturesque slopes of the Tygerberg Hills, is fast becoming the Cape’s most sought-after chateau, with top-class eateries and accommodation to boot. The vineyards are still pretty new, but each one offers prosperous harvests, award-winning wines and a lively and welcoming atmosphere.

Stellenbosch
is Cape Town’s largest wine route and comprises some 100-plus estates which are so extensive, they’re divided into sub-routes – namely the Greater Simonsberg, the Stellenbosch Berg, Helderberg, the Stellenbosch Valley and Bottelary Hills.

Paarl is not only famous for its cultural history and landscape, but also for its golfing community and legendary 'Red Route'.  From Cabernet Sauvignons, to ports and Shirazs… the region offers some of the finest wine farms and tasting tours in the world!

Franschhoek is regarded by some as the crème de la crème of the winelands.  So, if you’re willing to splurge a little more, give it a try. You’ll find warm hospitality, fantastic cuisine and (possibly) thee tastiest wines in the country!

So, there you have it… a very basic roundup of the Cape’s MOST POPULAR wine destinations.

Do tell us… which of the five would you recommend, and why?
