If the unrelenting bickering off our Cape Town vs. Durban and Johannesburg vs. Pretoria polls are anything to go by, then this standoff debate is bound to get a leetle brutal. And, while we’re against offensive and vulgar raging, we do believe in the significance, necessity and even value of running such ‘research’.
We’re putting SA’s big guns up against each other... for YOUR take on which is better, and why.
Cape Town
With its gorgeous landscape, picturesque beachfronts, natural settings and charming attractions, it’s no wonder the Mother City was voted for and declared 2011’s BEST destination in TripAdvisor’s annual travel awards!
From world-renowned wonders like Table Mountain, Cape Point and Robben Island; to the Winelands, the V&A Waterfront and the ocean – these, along with the well-developed infrastructure and gorgeous sights to see, is why so many tourists assemble at its shores.
Spend a weekend in Cape Town, but expect nothing more than easy-going, chilled vibes.
Johannesburg
While Jo’burg doesn’t have a coastline, it is a frontrunner when it comes to eclectic cultures that tempt the senses and head up SA's unique Afropolitan style. The city is also home to many of our country’s wealthiest and most prominent individuals, businesses and institutions.
I’ve said it before… When I think Jozi, I think money! It’s, ahem, coined the City of Gold, after all.
This energetic city is all about glitz and glam. From flashy hotels and top-class eateries, to a lively social scene and a fast-paced way of life, positioned - quite fittingly - between some of the grandest malls and boutiques I have ever come across.
Spend a weekend in Johannesburg, but expect bustle, activity… and tons and tons of shopping!
And… there you have it!
Now it’s your turn: What are your thoughts on these two cities, which’s better, and why? Vote and drop us your opinion below.
