Is Durban dangerous?

accreditation
Holiday review website Zoover released its user-generated list of vacation spots that you may want to avoid if you wish to maximise your chances of a stress-free trip.

Many of these cities have great natural beauty but a seedy underbelly created by huge disparities between rich and poor.

Here’s the list… let us know if you agree:

Durban, South Africa
Durban is home to one of the finest natural harbours in the world but has become notorious for the lack of personal safety afforded to its tourists. Users advise tourists to avoid taxis, as they have been linked to kidnappings, robberies and murders.

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
Many tourists fall prey to the criminal activity and corruption that this South American metropolis is known for, along with its beaches, music and Carnival. Bloggers posted more than a few complaints about being robbed on the supposedly ‘idyllic’ beaches of Ipanema.

Nairobi, Kenya
The capital of Kenya is beautiful but can be deadly, according to those who have been there, as some locals target tourists. Users gave high points for taxi safety, and stressed that going out at night without safe escorts is foolish.

Playa el Agua, Isla Margarita
This popular Caribbean destination just off the coast of mother country Venezuela is full of white sands but increasing instability. Despite a population of less than half a million people, many users reported experiencing violent crime.

Caracas, Venezuela
The high inflation and sky-high prices Caracas has endured the last several years may have made certain elements more willing to resort to violence, opined many Zoover users.
