It’s impossible to scroll down Instagram without seeing one of those motivational posts about fitness or wellness on your feed.

But this Instagrammers’ posts aren’t quite meant to give you your daily dose of #fitspiration.

Edward Lane (27) uses his Instagram page, Wellness Ted for another reason entirely – to poke fun at his girlfriend, Women’s Health digital editor, Amy Hopkinson.

While Amy posts snaps of her toned torso and super-healthy meals, Ted usually post pics of himself clad in women's active wear with drawn-on abs surrounded by beer cans and hotdogs.

When she posts a picture of her healthy eats, he’ll upload a photo of his lunch – which usually consists of sausages and mash or a tray of chicken nuggets.

Ted, who is a journalist, uses his cheeky Instagram captions to parody the way many fitness bloggers write.

One of his popular posts features a new trend: hot dog yoga!

“It's like hot yoga, but the main sweats you'll get are of the meat variety.

“And, clean eaters, don't worry about these dirty dogs – the metabolism boost you get from a strong flow is more than enough to make this post-class nutrition calorie neutral,” he captioned one of his posts.

While bloggers usually share photos of what they looked like before and after they started doing working out, Ted also posts side-by-side ‘transformation’ snaps. In one, he’ll be eating one slice of pizza. In the other, he’ll be chowing down the entire pie.

He jokingly writes how he's made 'progress' between January and May because he can now eat three cheeseburgers at once.

Ted believes fitness bloggers take themselves – and Instagram – too seriously at times.

"I just wanted to take the piss out of a lot of people who present themselves as holier-than-thou health crusaders, but who are actually using it as a free ticket to some south west London luxury lifestyle," Ted told Mashable.

Given that Instagram has recently been ranked as one of the worst social network for young people's mental health and wellbeing, Wellness Ted might be on to something here.

Maybe we do take ourselves a little too seriously on Instagram.

Although he has built up quite a following, Amy seems unfazed by her boyfriend's teasing.

In one of her snaps of a delicious healthy version of a pizza, she revealed: “He may want to be a Carling-swigging yogi but secretly he's a healthy chef.”
