Tell us about the woman who aspires to wear a Thebe Magugu garment – who is she?
She's intelligent and knows who she is and what she wants. She has eclectic taste in clothes that varies from loving high fashion to appreciating street culture. She’s cool with adults and kids adore her.
How did you get involved with Woolworths Style by SA?
I interned for Woolworths about three years ago. The brand's fashion designer, David West, asked me to move to Cape Town to intern there after seeing my graduation collection. I learnt so much from him. A few years later, Woolworths contacted me in my capacity as a solo designer, asking me to collaborate with them in their Style by SA initiative, aimed at promoting the creations of local designers in their stores and online.
What will you miss about that experience?
Showcasing my first solo collection at a fashion week was an inexplicable feeling – seeing all my hard work come together so beautifully is really what I'll remember the most.
Who’s runway show would you kill to see, front row style?
It would have to be Miucca Prada in Milan, and Phoebe Philo in Paris.
Who is your muse?
Model Sarah Langa is genuinely chic. I once bumped into her in Sandton rocking a blunt lob [a long bob cut] – she looked effortlessly modern and attractive. I admire her versatility. She has the makings of a fashion icon.
What's your favourite piece that you've designed so far?
My Girl-Seeks-Girl scuba dress – it's one of the simplest yet stylish things I’ve ever made and means so much to me.
Name one item you can’t leave home without.
My phone, for business purposes.
Your favourite destination?
Kimberley has a phenomenal yet grounding vibe. The infamous Big Hole is also cool, but it's actually quite a bittersweet site for me – it shows the greatness of man yet Kimberley was robbed of a lot of its resources. It should’ve been developed as a thriving city, such as Johannesburg.
A meal you eat again and again?
French toast, bacon and bananas with syrup. I love breakfasts, too. A beauty product that you enjoy?
