A popular body-positivity blogger who’s battling cervical cancer bravely shared a picture of her bald patch on social media to spread a powerful message.

Milly Smith (23), who started the popular Instagram account Self Love Club, documented her hair loss on Instagram after undergoing chemotherapy and radiotherapy for her Stage 4 cervical cancer.

The mom-of-one admits that her hair loss left her feeling rather embarrassed and nervous, and she was hesitant to share the picture with her followers.

But the brave beauty overcame her fear and posted side-by-side snaps of the hair loss she’d experienced as a result of her aggressive treatment.

“I’ve previously had thinning hair due to medication but right now my hair is falling out in clumps due to chemo/radiation therapy and it’s likely I will lose all of it,” Milly writes.

“I realised that a year ago this would have devastated me beyond belief but right now I’m at peace with it and it’s due to self-love and positivity.”

Milly went on to say that her lack of hair doesn’t define how attractive she is. “I realise now that I am a radiant flower whatever my hair is doing,” she says.

“My hair isn’t what makes me beautiful; it’s my kind and wonderful soul that shines out like sunbeams.”

She also writes that the message women often get from the world is that their beauty lies in the length of their hair, but Milly encourages women to rock their hairstyle no matter what.

“We are taught that women need long, flowing, beautiful hair to be considered attractive.

“Here’s to girls with no hair, short hair, thin hair, Afro hair, straight hair, thick hair, dry hair, hair all over their body, facial hair, etc. You rock.

“Hair is hair, no more no less, and it does not define you,” Milly says.

Milly’s post, which has racked up more than 41 000 likes so far, has received many messages expressing love and support.

“You are absolutely amazing. Thank you for being you and letting us know it’s okay to be ourselves,” writes one Instagrammer.

“You’re such an inspiration. I hope you get better so you can continue to spread your message of positivity,” another one comments.
