Why did you choose to remain active and maintain your exercise routine?

I chose to remain active because I love working out and dance is my passion. I’ve seen and heard of a lot women who stop working out because of fear. I’m relieved that my doctor gave me the go ahead to keep dancing and working out because it keeps me energised, fit and happy. I want to inspire and educated women about fit pregnancy and to let them know that the world doesn’t stop when you fall pregnant. You can still take care of yourself, love yourself while keeping your baby healthy and safe.

What are the benefits of exercise during pregnancy?

Exercise keeps your energy levels up, while also reducing stress. I’m such happy positive soul because of it. It’s great for your posture and core especially with all the body changes, and I hardly get constipated or bloated which is a bonus. Another bonus is that my snap back won’t be as difficult if all goes well with the birth.

What kind of exercises can an expectant mom do?

If you’ve been exercising before falling pregnant, it’s usually okay to carry on with your normal workout routine unless your doctor says otherwise.

All exercises are trimester specific because as your belly gets bigger the more you need to be careful and the less you can do.

The first trimester was tough for me because I had morning sickness, headaches and sometimes dizziness. I hardly did cardio work; I mainly did toning and stretches. It all depends on your body.

Great workouts for those who can work out are swimming, prenatal yoga, water aerobics, pilates, walking or jogging, leg work or squats and lightweights.
