Unless you're some sort of sociopath, it's safe to say that no one likes a breakup. It's a n unpleasant experience for both the breakupper and the breakupee, but sometimes it cannot be avoided.
If you're the one who has to do the dirty work, make sure you do it with sensitivity and empathy.
Make sure you do not do the following:
1) Don't break up with someone via SMS, Whatsapp, or social media.
It's astonishing yes, but people actually do this. Unless you're still in primary school, this is not cool. This counts for relationships though, not casual dating. You are not required to tell someone in person that you do not want to have a third date with them. That would be weird.
2) Via voice message
Look, sometimes it’s okay to break up with someone telephonically. If your partner is on an oil rig somewhere, or if you are in a long distance relationship, you sometimes have to make do. But, other than those extreme cases, you do not break up over voicemail. Imagine checking your messages hearing that? No man!
3) In front of other people
Heartbreak is a private thing and very few people are comfortable with public displays of emotion – even when it’s the good kind.
So breaking up with someone in a restaurant or at a party where they are forced to deal with the blow in front of other people is extremely insensitive and rude. Unless you fear the other person is going to react violently, leave breakups for private spaces.
4) Telling other people before you tell your soon-to-be ex
There is nothing worse than being the last to know and, trust me, the world is terribly small these days. So remember, before you tell your friends, your sisters or even your mom, tell him first.
5) Acting out so they break up with you / forcing them to break up with you
Some people aren’t brave enough to end relationships. So instead, they behave so badly that they make it impossible for the other person to stay in the relationship. This is very unfair and immature, so don't be a coward.
