At best, they’ll do this to trick their target into thinking they’re more attractive, more skilled or wealthier than they actually are.
At worst, they’ll attempt to gain their target’s trust for something far more sinister. But this woman’s catfishing experience turned out to be much more pleasant than most…
Emma Perrier (33) took a chance in 2015: she took to the internet in a bid to find the love of her life, The Atlantic reports.
Before long she’d met someone – and the young Londoner couldn’t believe her luck. He was perfect. A devastatingly handsome, 34-year-old Italian, Ronaldo “Ronnie” Scicluna, who worked as an electrician.
The couple wasted no time making their relationship official and before long they were going steady – online that is – even though they’d never met in real life.
The loved-up couple spoke every day but Ronnie kept making excuses for why he couldn’t meet Emma in person.
This was when one of Emma’s colleagues smelled a rat and decided to start doing some research. Their research eventually lead to the discovery that Ronnie was actually Alan Stanley, a 53-year-old builder and womanizer.
The photo Alan had used was of Turkish model and actor, Adem Güzel. Emma then sent Adem a message to inform him that Alan had been illegally using his pictures.
Adem had apparently already received a few messages and reacted on Emma’s message.
After exchanging messages, the pair actually met up, and it was love at first sight! One thing’s for sure: were it not for Alan’s scheming ways, Emma wouldn’t not have found happiness with Adem.
“My catfish became cupid,” Emma told The Mirror, “And now we’re living happily ever after.”
