Dependency and irresponsibility

Telling yourself to stop giving too much can be quite a difficult thing to do especially in a relationship. However your way of helping out could potentially back fire. Your partner may start being overly dependent on you for everything that’s going on his life. This may also trigger irresponsible behaviour because he knows you’re always there to bail him out regardless of what the problem is.

It goes against values and intergrity

Nothing you do should ever make you go against what you believe in, not even a long term relationship. For instance having to live a lie just to benefit him. Psychology lecture at the University of California and author Dr Burn Shawn says a healthy helping should never involve deception, secrets or requires you to sacrifice your morals.

It feels like manipulation

More often that not, final decisions are always taken by him. Basically, he never asks but tells you what to do. Manipulation can come in many forms such as making you feel guilty and conveniently having a solution to make you feel less guilty. Take this as a sign that this person has the ability to be deceitful and take advantage of you if it means he benefits in the end.

You never say no

Denying your partner of what he wants as opposed to what he needs is sometimes needed to keep everything in check. Your inability to never say so won’t benefit you in any way. In fact, chances are he’ll use this to his advantage.

No time for me time

Even in a relationship you still need to yourself to gather your thoughts, do what you enjoy and just be you. If for the past three months you’ve been neglecting your own hapiness, it’s time to make a few changes as letting it go on for long will make matters worse.
