Drama for Life’s Sex Actually Festival is back. Using theatre performances, film screenings, workshops, exhibitions and conversations, the festival looks at sexuality, sexual identity and the complexities of self.
This year’s theme is The Body Politic: Beyond Headlines, Heartlines and Hashtags.
The festival’s curator says: “This year, the festival and conversations hope to confront that which is feared – to understand it and to respect that the overall health of the collective is a responsibility to be shared equally among citizens.”
The programme will showcase performances by the Drama for Life Theatre Company, Siphumeze Khundayi and Bongile Lecoge-Zulu, Drama for Life Playback Theatre, and the Hillbrow Theatre Project.
In a society such as ours, where we struggle with our conservative values as well as rampant sexual abuse, this festival should open up many conversations. – Grethe Kemp
- The festival takes place from September 18 to 23 at the Drama for Life Creative Research Hub, located in Braamfontein at the top of the University Corner Building (which also houses the Wits Art Museum). Go here for the full programme
