Jade answers your sex questions around potency and Viagra

accreditation

Reader: I have a problem. My penis is erect for a few minutes before having sex, but when I start it goes soft. What is going on?

Jade: Age and lifestyle can play a role. Excessive alcohol use can result in nerve damage. These nerves are necessary for the control of your erection. Diabetes and the hardening of arteries can lead to circulatory problems, which can cause erectile dysfunction. Another potential cause is performance anxiety. You may, unintentionally, be psyching yourself out of the moment. Relax. Stay present and in the moment, and remember that you are allowed consensual pleasure. If the problem persists or you believe the cause to be physical and not psychological, then you should consult your doctor to assess your situation.

Reader: I’m 58 years old and think I’m sexually dysfunctional. Whenever I need to perform, I have to boost myself with Viagra. Is there any danger in the long run from using Viagra?

Jade: Reported side-effects from Viagra use, not necessarily always caused by long-term use, include anaemia, joint pain, blurred vision, cardiac arrhythmia and heart palpitations. Strokes and heart attacks are not unheard of, but, in most instances, the sufferer has had a prior history or was at high risk.

Be honest with your doctor about previous or current conditions from which you may suffer and pay attention to any health-related changes in yourself.
