First impressions
I love little external vibes and when a new one comes out I get super excited. Even more so if they’re produced by big houses like We-Vibe.
While I wasn’t as enamoured as the rest of the world with the couples-orientated We-Vibe II, I was curious about what the new little tongue-shaped (what the manufacturers call a ‘sculpted pleasure wave contour’) Touch would have to offer.
What it is
Designed for clitoral and vulva stimulation, the Touch is a discreet rechargeable and waterproof vibe.
How it works
The strength of this little vibe is in the what I like to call the ‘tip of the tongue’. It offers pin-point stimulation to your clit and a curious indentation, the ‘pleasure wave contour’, that envelopes your clit (I can’t really think of any other reason for this, to be honest).
Although you should be able to nestle the body between your labia, the toy isn’t very easy to hold and manipulate the controls in this position. The eight vibe settings are reminiscent of the We-Vibe II.
But while the buzz is powerful it’s not meant for firm pressing or grinding, as any pressure on the Touch muffles and slows the vibration, so only use it lightly against your lady bits. This is a pity actually because the material makes this little toy soft to the touch but quite flexible – perfect for some harder handling.
What I though of it
The happy
Like most toys in its class the Touch is well presented and comes with a little white satin bag and all the rechargeable goodies. The vibe settings are satisfactory (my fave is the tease and pulse), nicely varied and very quiet and I like that it’s properly waterproof.
Thankfully, We-Vibe has improved its control button, which is a very user-friendly thumbpad-wide push button on the chunky part of the Touch. This one button manages all the functionality (which I sometimes find tedious when it comes to switching the toy off or adjusting vibes) and even lights up according to pulse and vibration.
It’s a quaint little party trick but I’m not sure what purpose it serves when you’ll know what setting your vibe is on by the 3 000 to 4 800 rpm of buzz charging through your 8 000-nerve ending clit.
The smallness of the vibe comes in handy in that you can easily use it during sex or with another penetrative toy. Also, with no seams, buttons or knobby bits it’s a doddle to clean. I also enjoyed the firm but not hard feel of the Touch.
The not happy
Urgh. I’m not a fan of the material We-Vibe uses for its products.
Although it ticks all the boxes – it’s lead-free, phthalate-free, 100% medical-grade platinum silicone – the rubber-like, lint-collecting surface makes me squidge my nose and reach for a wet wipe.
Like I said, although it’s perfect for point-to-clit stimulation, I don’t think it’s very easy to operate the controls and manoeuvre the Touch comfortably between your labia due to its shape. I find the grip a little tricky when you’re trying to change vibe modes as this little slinky can get very slippery when wet (I had to resort to using two hands to change the settings at one stage). A way around this may be to apply only a touch of lube to your clit instead of what I usually do, which is slather lube everywhere just for extra yum.
As for the charger, We-Vibe has moved onto hot-foot technology (oooh into the future!) but have made the curious decision to make the charger’s receptor (a cute pod-shaped device) and plug two different things. Which effectively means that if you lose the little pod (not inconceivable, given its size) you have no way of charging your toy.
Should you run out and buy it now?
This is a lovely external/clit vibe that is wonderfully discreet and non-threatening. If the handling was just a touch easier and the charger less silly it would be perfect.
