1. Excitement and adventure
The driving desire is to experience excitement and adventure. Secret meetings, the risk of getting caught and the intensity all fuel the excitement buttons. There's a sense of novelty and adventure.
2. Companionship
Many married women feel under-appreciated and not listened to by their husbands, and often a lover may listen to the woman in a way she wishes her husband did.
3. Romance
The world we live in gives plenty of messages that inspire the romantic side of a woman. Songs, movies and books are full of promises of soft-focused, long, lingering kisses, tender embraces and walks on the beach. A married woman may be drawn into an affair because it fuels this fantasy.
4. Lust
Perhaps the one driving factor in affairs for both married men or women is the sex. If a wife's unsatisfied by the sex in her marriage, she may venture into the affair zone to satisfy her desires and urges.
5. One-night stands
This type of affair often happens at a work conference, a party or a company dinner where – frequently after drinking too much alcohol – a married woman throws caution to the wind and has a one-night stand with a stranger or colleague to add spice to her life. Curiosity is often a factor and the chances of being found out are usually minimal.
6. Revenge
Sometimes a married woman may be angry because her husband's not paying her enough attention, watching too much sport or spending too much time with friends or at work.
7. Escaping mundanity
Some married women feel trapped in their roles as wife, mother and home-maker and when the chance to have an affair comes along, they leap at the opportunity to relieve the boredom.
