I must move on. But how?

If you’re subscribed to receive our weekly newsletter, then you would remember a column I wrote a few months ago about the fact that I am single and how I have no intention or desire to find a man and settle down just yet.

I lied. Well, sort of.

The thing is, I may be too attached to a man I once dated.

After two years apart, he still plays a significant role in my life.

And despite our strictly platonic relationship, I cannot sit here and tell you that there are no emotions on my side. I also can’t tell you that I’ve properly moved on.

Facing the truth

“You need to cut ties, my friend, how else do you expect to move on?!” This is a line, a phrase, a requirement, I guess, that I actually need to and must consider fast.

If not for sanity’s sake, then for the mere fact that it’s vital if I ever want to find love and be happy - with someone else - again.

Gosh.

I wish he was a complete douche, you know? Or that he cheated while we were together. Or that he was dating again. Because then I could hate him and it would make ‘freeing’ myself so much easier.

But, alas. He’s actually a decent, caring man whom I honestly cannot fault.

Things ended because they had to. And maybe that’s what I should keep in mind when I doubt my past decisions and wonder what the future holds.

Have you been - or are you - in a similar situation? Please say you have advice to give?

Maybe your ‘dilemma’ was not – or is not - with an ex. Perhaps your ‘dangerous liaison’ has to do with a work colleague, a married guy, an abusive man...

How did you simply end it?
