Sustainability and social responsibility have quickly become key components of fashion’s landscape. The trend towards ‘green’ options in fashion was triggered by companies such as Rent The Runway or Bag, Borrow or Steal that gave shoppers the option to rent high-end designer merchandise for a fraction of the price. While cost-effective, it also resulted in far less waste than if the consumer purchased the item.

This reusing of items spurred consumers towards recycling or upcycling clothing. Previously frowned upon, thrift shopping and vintage wear is now worn with pride, which has encouraged brands to incorporate recycled or vintage pieces within their collections.
