Women all over the world were freed from emotional confusion when Greg Behrendt and Liz Tuccillo told us the real deal in their book He's Just Not That Into You. The book was so popular, Oprah interviewed the authors.
The phrase "He's Just Not That Into You" started out in an episode of Sex And The City. It became the survival motto for single women all over the world, so two of the show's writers based a book on that saying. Now producers have taken the concept one step further and the book has been turned into a film.
He's Just Not That Into You tells the stories of a group of interconnected, twenty- and thirty-somethings as they navigate their various relationships from the shallow end of the dating pool through the deep murky waters of married life, trying to read the thoughts of the opposite sex... and hoping to be exceptions to the "no exceptions" rule.
The film's star-studded cast includes Ben Affleck, Jennifer Aniston, Drew Barrymore, Jennifer Connelly and Scarlett Johansson. Gigi (Ginniger Goodwin) just wants a man who says he’ll call – and does – while Alex (Justin Long) advises her to stop sitting by the phone. Beth (Jennifer Aniston) wonders if she should call if off after years of committed singlehood with her boyfriend, Neil. And Mary (Drew Barrymore), who's found an entire network of loving, supportive men, just needs to find one who's straight.
For those who are interested, Behrendt and Tuccillo have also penned another book entitled It's Called a Break-up because it's Broken. The authors spell out the Breakup Commandments, including "Don't see him or talk to him for sixty days", "Get yourself a break-up buddy" and "Don't wear your breakup out into the world".
So when is he just not into you?
• He's just not that into you if he's not asking you out
• He's just not that into you if he's not dating you
• He's just not that into you if he's having sex with someone else
• He's just not that into you if he's not calling you
• He's just not that into you if he's disappeared on you
As the books blurb says, "now you can stop wasting time making excuses for a dead-end relationship". Get the book!
The film will be released in South Africa on Friday 13 February, NuMetro Cinemas. Want a sneak peak? Here's the trailer.
