Joost denies sex tape scandal

Former Springbok captain, Joost van der Westhuizen, denies that the alleged sex tape reported by The Sunday Times and Rapport features him. "I can tell you it was definitely not me [in the video] and I've never done something like that," he said.

The 29-minute sex video, which was revealed by Rapport, features a man who looks similar to the rugby hero receiving oral sex from a young dancer and sniffing white powder.

"I am innocent in all this... if people want to make their own assumptions, they must," he said. Van der Westhuizen told The Times that people are trying to smear him. "I received a call in August in which someone said 'Jou kak gaan nou begin' (The shit will start)," he said.

Van der Westhuizen insists that he is not the man in the video and says he has never cheated on his celebrity wife, Amor Vittone. He says, "My heart is with the Lord... I have seen the picture; it's not me. Where is the ring?"

"I have tattoos on my lower body," he insists, "They said I wore Polo socks and old-type underwear. I don't have that in my cupboard."

The couple, who have two children, claim they are the victims of a hoax or mistaken identity. "Every single time that we appear in the media, someone tries to smear us," he says.

Van der Westhuizen says he has the full support of his wife during this time. "Vittone says that it is to be expected that persons with public profiles would from time to time find themselves at the receiving end of negative, and many times unfounded, news reports as in this instance," he said.

He plans to seek an urgent court interdict to watch the intimate video. He says, "The media is not prepared to show me the tapes and they've just got a picture where you can't see it's me. But I'm going to look at legal advice," reports East Coast Radio.

"Obviously there is a lot at stake at this stage and I would like to see the tape before I can make any comment...I have tried to obtain the video. Now they want to sell it to me," said van der Westhuizen, "Why can't they show me the video clips? I can't comment on something I haven't seen."
