Nicki Minaj: “You’re a bitch”

accreditation
After radio DJ Peter Rosenberg said that Nicki Minaj’s single Starships is "wack and corny" and “a sellout”, she cancelled her appearance at Hot 97's Summer Jam in New Jersey. The DJ blasted her song as "F***ing bulls**t." Which caused Lil Wayne, who heads up her record label, to pull her from the gig.

But wait, folks. There’s more…

DJ Funkmaster Flex (a friend of DJ Peter) insulted Nicki Minaj during a follow-up telephone interview to explain to fans why she pulled out. He said: “We don’t fuck with commercial artists no more. We don’t give a shit if you commercial or pop and you afraid to touch down in Jersey.”

Funkmaster Flex repeatedly insulted and talked over Nicki during the phone call and generally acted like a dick (in my opinion).

It’s just disrespectful to interrupt someone during an interview, especially after saying how he is going to ruin her career on his show.

Nicki responded to the insults from Funkmaster: "There isn't a bitch alive — and when I say bitch, I include men, because you're a bitch when you act like that — that could scare me from performing a show."

"When you want our team to come to your show, treat us with respect. And that's all we're asking. We're not asking for any special treatment. Just respect. And I'm very proud of my team, and the way they stood behind me." She added.

I’m all for freedom of speech and voicing your own opinions and challenging people in the public eye. But these two DJs overstepped the line. This habit of calling artist sellouts, especially in hip hop circles is so ‘90s. And when the person you’re calling a sellout is one of the most successful recording artists in the 21st century, you need to think twice and wonder if you can substantiate your disses – before you open your mouth.
