According to Channel24, Caitlyn Jenner, who looked amazing in her floor length ivory gown, delivered a 10-minute long acceptance speech after receiving the Arthur Ashe Courage Award at the ESPYs recently.
Caitlyn, according to Buzzfeed, who revealed to Diane Sawyer that she was starting her transition in a televised interview back in April, spoke about her journey to become who she is now during what was her first major public appearance since announcing that she is, in fact, trans.
These are just a few of the touching moments from her speech:
When she highlighted the difficulty of transitioning
“...this transition has been harder on me than anything I could have imagined,” she said. “For that reason alone, trans people deserve something vital, they deserve your respect.”
When she spoke about young trans men and women who are coming to terms with their journeys and highlighted two recent deaths in the trans community.
“They’re getting bullied, they’re getting beaten up, they’re getting murdered, and they’re committing suicide,” she said.
“With attention comes responsibility”
Caitlyn said she is clear on how to tell her own story “the right way” for herself and to keep learning and to use her story to “reshape the landscape of how trans issues are viewed, how trans people are treated” and to promote acceptance.
Respect = compassion
Trans people deserve your respect because of the adversity they face, and that respect will lead to a “more compassionate community, a more empathetic community, and a better world for all of us.”

And finally, when she said that she can take the jokes, name-calling, and doubt, but there are kids out there who shouldn’t have to deal with it.
