5 things you didn’t know about Laduma Ngxokolo

Here are a few things you might have not known about Laduma Ngoxolo, owner and designer of MaXhosa by Laduma, who has taken over the local and international fashion scene.

He's an award-winning designer

In 2015, he won the Vogue Italia Scouting for Africa prize to showcase his collections at the Palazzo Morando Show in Milan, Italy. And in 2014, Ngxokolo was awarded a scholarship to study for a master’s degree in material futures at the Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in London, England, until 2016. The brand’s popularity soared in April this year, when Beyoncé blogged in praise of one of his garmens after seeing it displayed at an exhibition at the Cooper Hewitt Design Museum in New York.

His mother taught him everything he knows

His mother taught him to knit at age 15, using a hand-operated machine. She has since passed away, but Laduma continues making and designing knitwear in her honour. 

He has collaborated with global skincare brand NIVEA 

To mark the launch of New NIVEA Invisible for Black & White Fresh Mist deodorant, NIVEA partnered with Laduma Ngxokolo.

The collab with NIVEA allows consumers the opportunities to win a MaXhosa by Laduma shirt and there are being limited number being given away.  The key variant is the NIVEA Invisible for Black & White Deodorant - FRESH MIST variant - which is new.

Included in the campaign is an exciting competition where consumers stand a chance to win one of 250 limited edition MAXHOSA BY LADUMA t-shirts. The striking design is a fashion statement that is uniquely South African. The campaign runs from July to October 2017. 

Beyoncé loves him 

MaXhosa by Laduma gained a lot of popularity in April 2016 when Beyoncé blogged about him and praised of one of his garments after seeing it displayed at an exhibition at the Cooper Hewitt Design Museum in New York.
