Put sugar on your face to look younger

accreditation

As well being an absolute waistline nightmare, eating a diet full if sugar can make skin look dull, lackluster and spotty. However a new book claims the sweet treat can actually have amazing anti-aging effects on the face, but before you tuck into that doughnut, you should probably know that author Imelda Burke doesn’t mean eating sugar. Imelda is talking about using sugar topically on the face, and reveals in her tome The Nature Of Beauty that it helps draw moisture into the cells, plumping it up.

“Sugar is also a natural source of glycolic acid, used to improve the skin’s appearance and texture, keeping it bright and radiant,” she also noted.

Imelda suggests making a sugar mask using the ingredients in your kitchen. Mix together raw sugar after grinding it to a fine powder in a coffee grinder or blender with olive oil and 1 tsp raw honey. Spread evenly across the face and leave on for a few minutes before rinsing away.

Sugar isn’t the only kitchen staple which can be great for skin appearance, so read on for our top anti-aging foods.

Fish

While we’re not advocating slathering fish over your face, eating a diet rich in the food source has huge benefits on your health and keeps your body in tip top condition. Fish is an abundant source of omega-3 fats, which help prevent cholesterol buildup in arteries and protect against abnormal heart rhythms. Salmon, sardines and mackerel are three of the best sources you can chow down on, and work wonders on skin by keeping it supple, moisturised and reduces chronic skin inflammations.

Pomegranates

Packed full of vitamin c, superfood pomegranates helps guard skin against the wrinkling effects of sun damage. As well as fighting free radicals, the fruit also contains a nutrient that helps increase the body’s capacity to preserve collagen.

Blueberries

Another fruit often hailed as a superfood, blueberries are literally bursting with antioxidants, and the tiny foods actually contain more than most other goods - now that’s impressive! A cup of blueberries has been reported to help prevent the cell-structure damage that can lead to loss of firmness, fine lines, and wrinkles.
