So, whether it’s the gym or a healthy eating plan, we’ve tried it all.
One trick often missed, according to image consultant Aseema Kazi of The Style Factor, is the way dress style affects appearance.
So, if ever you’ve looked in the mirror or at pictures and wondered why you look a bit more bulgy than you feel, the problem could lie with the clothes you’re in.
Here are some of Aseema’s tips for looking instantly slimmer, simply by changing up some of your outfits
1 Streamline with colour
Colour plays a major role in the way your outfit looks on you. Strategically designed dresses make you look slim and polished instantly. Use colour blocking and dark panels to draw the eye away from trouble spots – and highlight what you love with patterns and brights.
2 Ditch the tent
Many people that are fuller in size tend to think that by wearing oversized clothing they’d hide away their figure. Biggest mistake! Wear fitted not tight clothing as this accentuates one's figure. A figure hidden in metres of fabric always looks bigger.
3 Disguise thighs
Miniskirts and dresses can be tough because they bisect the leg where it's biggest. I'm a firm believer in skirts that hit at mid-knee, where your leg is slimmer.
4 Equalise your proportions
Pear shapes should offset a bigger lower half with details that broaden the upper body (flutter sleeves, boat necks). Well-endowed women can downsize their busts with simple tops.
5 Emphasise your waist
In fact, emphasise all your strongest features. Use colour and patterns to bring the gaze to shoulders or good legs (and divert it from other areas).
6 Rethink your fabric
When in doubt, choose clothing made in thicker fabrics. Jersey may be comfortable, but it will also cling to every lump and bump. Materials like gabardine or stretch cotton, especially in tailored form, give the body structure. Thin fabrics show every bulge.
7 Support yourself
Because of new technology and fabrics, shapewear is more effective and comfortable than ever. Additionally, the right size bra can rectify a multitude of fashion faux pas. A fitting at a good lingerie store costs nothing – and will instantly make you look better.
