You deserve it! If you have kids, leave them with your partner, parents or babysitter. Then turn off your cellphone and try one of the following:


  • Go for a walk, alone – stretching and moving improves clarity, creativity and memory skills.
  • Go and watch a "chick flick" in the middle of the morning.
  • Dine al fresco – pack a picnic in the park, or find a coffee shop or restaurant with tables outdoors (preferable under the trees and away from the bustle of shops).
  • Snap you surroundings – if you don't have a camera, get a disposable one and visit a park or garden. Take picture of flowers, autumn leaves, bare winter trees – whatever takes you fancy.
  • Try something new – take a pottery or mosaic class, experiment with a dance class you've always wanted to try, enroll for a foreign language course or take up rock-climbing.

    Time out from the normal stuff you do is a great way to energise both body and mind – and an hour a week isn't so hard to find. Just missing out the TV news or one of those sitcoms you watch will allows you to do something new, creative and beneficial.
