Top 10 new golf courses of 2007

Editors from the Travel + Leisure Golf magazine published by American Express Publishing Corp chose the top 10 new courses for their November/December issue with eight in the United States, one in Canada, and one in New Zealand.

Following is their list:

1. Chambers Bay, Tacoma, Washington
Designed by Robert Trent Jones II, this 18-hole championship golf course opened in June. Nestled against the shores of Puget Sound in University Place, Washington, Chambers Bay is a spectacular setting and caters to all level golfers.

2. Golf Club at Ravenna, Littleton, Colorado
A private golf course set among imposing red rock formations with views of the Pike National Forest, the Golf Club at Ravenna was designed by Jay Morrish to be a part of the Colorado landscape.

3. Stonebrae Country Club, Hayward, California
This 18-hole golf course, designed by Scottish golf architect David McLay Kidd, course encompasses hilltop and bay views. An extensive driving range, short-game practice area complement the course.

4. The Home Course, DuPont, Washington
Located where most of the old DuPont Powderworks Plant was located, this public course covers over 180 acres of land and has sweeping views of the Puget Sound.

5. Promontory, Painted Valley Course, Park City, Utah
Set against a mountain backdrop in Promontory's scenic Painted Valley, this private course, designed by Jack Nicklaus, has been planned for players of all abilities.

6. The Golf Club of Cape Cod, Falmouth, Massachusetts
This is a traditional golf-only club with a focus on camaraderie, integrity and sportsmanship. This private enclave is the only course on Cape Cod designed by golf course architect, Rees Jones.

7. Creek Club at Reynolds Plantation, Greensboro, Georgia
Reynolds Plantation's fifth golf course opened for members on June 1. The Creek Course is Reynolds Plantation's first member only course and was designed by Jim Engh with rolling bunkers and Zoysia grass fairways.

8. Kinloch Club, Kinloch, New Zealand
Designer Jack Nicklaus opened his first signature golf course in New Zealand, The Kinloch Club, on the shores of Lake Taupo in March.

9. Gozzer Ranch Golf & Lake Club, Coeur d'Alene, Idaho
Designer Tom Fazio created this 18-hole championship golf course with views of Lake Coeur d'Alene and its forests blending it into the landscape. Some holes play close to the basalt rock bluff's edge, where 100-foot spires and cliffs surround the scenery.

10. Cobble Beach Golf Links, Owen Sound, Ontario, Canada
The Doug Carrick-designed course winds its way through open meadow edged with mature woodlands, rising to provide views of the course and Georgian Bay beyond and then returns to the shore for a finish along the bluffs.
