It may seem that life is a breeze for attractive people, but a fitness model has revealed that her good looks had cost her all her friends and caused years of stress and anxiety.

Jane Curnow (51), from Sydney, Australia, started dating again after her marriage came to an end. She received plenty of attention from men, she says – which sparked jealousy in other women.

“I’ve lost many friends and always thought it was my fault. I didn’t attribute it to my looks until my 30s,” Jane told News.com.au.

“So-called friends walked out on me in bars because of the male attention I received.”

At the age of 32, Jane was diagnosed with depression, which led her to attempt suicide twice.

It wasn’t until she received the she needed in her 40s that she realised how much her appearance had actually impacted her mindset.

“On reflection, I realised the power of my appearance, but the resulting feelings were not of pride or happiness but of incredible pressure.

“I asked myself; if I’m as good looking as everyone says, then why am I so unhappy? Why aren’t I living the dream?” she says.

The fitness instructor’s friends, family and colleagues constantly called her “beautiful” which led to her obsession with her weight and looks in a bid to achieve happiness – but she learned that it would not solve things.

Fitness has proved to be a much-needed outlet to help Jane with her mental health issues.

She now works as a fitness model and life coach and spends her time encouraging other women to embrace their unique qualities.

“If you don’t love yourself without the body and looks, this doesn’t change when you do,” she says. “In fact, it only highlights how much you hate the person inside.”
